History of the Church of England - The specifically English church originates primarily from events in the late 6th century in the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Kent, and the mission of Saint Augustine. The Church of England traditionally looks to these early events for its origins, rather than to Henry VIII's political schism with the Roman Catholic Church, or to the wider Reformation in mainland Europe.
Historical development of Church of England dioceses - This page traces the history of the dioceses and cathedrals of the Church of England. Since it is customary in that country to name nearly all dioceses after their cathedrals, the two terms are used somewhat interchangeably, even though they are technically quite separate things.
Established Church - In English history, the Established Church is the Church of England, the church which is established by the Government, supported by it, and of which the monarch is the titular head; until 1920 it also held the same position in Wales. The Church of Ireland had the same position in Ireland prior to 1869.
Conformist - In English history, Conformists were those whose religious practices conformed with the requirements of the Act of Uniformity and so were in concert with the Established Church, the Church of England, as opposed to those of Nonconformists whose practices were not acceptable to the Church of England.
